Both use the same speech worker. Checking readiness may bring an idle worker online; it does not submit text or audio or use your account allowance.

Why speech sometimes needs to warm up

Workers can shut down while idle. Starting one can take several minutes. This is more noticeable during Narrator’s early days, when fewer people are using it. The plugin and demos show warmup progress before starting speech.

This page checks the API now and checks speech when you press the button. It is not an uptime history or a check of Stripe, account quotas or every API endpoint. “Ready” describes the last check; capacity can change afterward.

If a check fails, retry shortly. For an issue with a specific request, note the time and any request ID before emailing [email protected]. Do not share your API key or private note contents.
